Al-Nejashi

Ethiopia was known as a land where King Negus – or Al-Najashi – was known to respect religious rights and whose land was ruled with justice. The mosque has been named Al-Nejashi in honor of the king who was credited for saving the Prophet’s followers who were fleeing from great oppression.  The recently renovated mosque is considered to be one of the earliest mosques in the world and tombs of fifteen companions of the Prophet are located in the premises of the mosque and have been restored. This area is an important historical religious tourism attraction for both Muslims and Christians alike.
